આકાશવાણી નેપાળ દ્વારા પોતાના કેરિયરની શરૂઆત કરીને લોકપ્રિયતાની શિખરે પહોંચનારા બોલીવુડના જાણીતા પાર્શ્વગાયક ઉદિત નારાયણ આજે પણ પોતાના ગીતો દ્વારા શ્રોતાઓન દિલ પર રાજ કરે છે. ઉદીત નારાયણનો જન્મ પેપાલમાં એક ડિસેમ્બર 1955ના રોજ મધ્યમવર્ગીય બ્રાહ્મણ પરિવારમાં થયો. તેમણે પોતાના શરૂઆતી અભ્યાસ શિક્ષા બિહારના સહરસામાં પૂર્ણ કર્યો અને આગળનો અભ્યાસ નેપાળના કાઠમાંડૂ શહેરમાં પૂર્ણ કર્યો. બાળપણથી જ તેમને સંગીતમાં રસ હતો અને તેઓ પાર્શ્વગાયક બનવા માંગતા હતા. આ દિશામાં શરૂઆત કરતા તેમણે સંગીતની શરૂઆતી શિક્ષા પંડિત દિનકર કૈકિની પાસેથી મેળવી.
ઉદિત નારાયણના ગાયકના રૂપમાં પોતાના કેરિયરની શરૂઆત નેપાળમાં આકાશવાણીથી કરી. જ્યાં તેમણે લોક સંગીતનો કાર્યક્રમ આપતા હતા. લગભગ 8 વર્ષ નેપાળના આકાશવાણી મંચ સાથે જોડાઈ રહ્યા પછી તેઓ 1978માં મુંબઈ આવ્યા અને ભારતીય વિદ્યા મંદિરમાં સ્કોલરશિપ મેળવી શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીતની શિક્ષા લેવા માંડ્યા. વર્ષ 1980માં ઉદિત નારાયણની મુલાકાત જાણીતા સંગીતકાર રાજેશ રોશન સાથે થઈ. તેમણે ઉદિતાની પ્રતિભાને ઓળખી અને પોતાની ફિલ્મ ઉન્નીસ બીસમાં પાર્શ્વગાયકના રૂપમા કામ કરવાની તક આપી. પરંતુ દુર્ભાગ્યવશ આ ફિલ્મ બોક્સ ઓફિસ પર ફ્લોપ ગઈ. પરંતુ એક યાદગાર વાત એ રહી કે તેમણે આ ફિલ્મમાં પોતાના આદર્શ મોહમ્મદ રફીની સાથે પાર્શ્વગીત ગાવાની તક મળી. લગભગ બે વર્ષ સુધી મુંબઈમાં રહ્યા પછી એઓ પાર્શ્વગાયક બનવા માટે સંધર્ષ કરવા માંડ્યા. બધા તેમને આશ્વાસન આપતા હતા પરંતુ ગીત ગાવાની તક કોઈ નહોતુ આપતુ. આ દરમિયાન ઉદીત નારાયણે ગહેરા જખ્મ, બડે દિલવાલા, તન બદન, અપના ભી કોઈ હોતા અને પત્તો કી બાજી જેવી બી અને સી ગ્રેડની ફિલ્મોમાં પાર્શ્વગાયનનુ કામ કર્યુ, પરંતુ તેમને તેનાથી કોઈ ખાસ ફાયદો ન થયો. `
